Mr Toad
Our Dad’s a dreadful driver,
We call him Mr Toad.
He thinks he’s superhuman,
Whenever he hits the road.

But yesterday disaster struck!
Swerving to avoid a 10 ton truck,
He crashed into a Morris Marina
And now our car’s a Ford Concertina.

The author derived this poem from experiences with his brother-in-law, who was inclined to buy exceptionally fast cars, and his way of driving resembled that of a maniac. The writer compares his brother to the famous character Mr Toad from a classical piece of children’s literature, ‘The Wind in the Willows’. At times he wishes that his brother be sent to jail.
