Funny school poems: ‘Seven Wonders of the World’

‘Seven Wonders of the World’ is one of several funny school poems written by Patrick Winstanley. Funny school poems tackle subjects like schools, naughty pupils, boring lessons, cruel punishments and many other school related activities. This poem specifically focuses on a schoolchild daydreaming in one of his long, boring and seemingly unending classes.

Patrick Winstanley stated ‘After sitting through lots and lots of really boring lessons at school, I discovered a really interesting fact. It’s not the lessons or the subjects that are boring – it’s the teachers.’ This somehow inspired him to write this funny short poem.

Here is the complete version of the poem:

I wonder why the sun is hot
I wonder why it rains a lot

I wonder why the sky is blue
I wonder why a cow goes moo

I wonder why the clouds skip by
I wonder why a bird can fly

I wonder will the lesson end
Before I’m driven round the bend.

The poem is entitled ‘Seven Wonders of the World’ to represent a child’s seven different question on things around him, including his question on when his long and boring class will end. The child spent his time daydreaming just to get through with his class.

‘Seven Wonders of the World’ is a manifestation of what a child typically feels inside a classroom, especially if the lessons are not to their interest, or if the teachers are really boring. Children often spend their time on some funny things that interest them more.
