Actor, Producer, Director, Screenwriter
George Clooney wears many hats – actor, producer, director, screenwriter and, of course, heartthrob. He also does quite a bit of work with the United Nations as a humanitarian. Born in Lexington, Kentucky in May of 1961, Clooney had show business in his blood. His mother was a former pageant queen and his father was an anchorman, journalist, game show host, and American Movie Classics host. His famous aunt, Rosemary Clooney, was married to actor Jose Ferrer.
As a child, Clooney suffered from Bell ’s palsy, a temporary yet debilitating condition that paralyzes part of the face. In high school, he excelled at not only academics but at baseball and basketball as well. Considering law as a possible career, he also tried out for the Cincinnati Reds in 1977 but didn’t make the first round of cuts. Though he went to college, he did not obtain a degree.
Early in his career Clooney landed roles on ‘The Facts of Life,’ ‘The Golden Girls,’ ‘Roseanne,’ and ‘Sisters.’ His big break would come as Dr. Doug Ross on ‘ER’ from 1994 to 1999 – from there, we all know what happened! He would go on to appear in both critical and blockbuster successes including ‘From Dusk till Dawn,’ ‘The Perfect Storm,’ ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou,,’ ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ and all of its sequels. Clooney’s directorial debut came in 2002’s ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.’
In 2006, Clooney won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his work in ‘Syriana’ though he was also nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for ‘Good Night, and Good Luck.’
Known also for his great sense of humour, Clooney has also had quite a history with the ladies. Married once from 1989-1993 to Talia Balsam, he has been linked with many beauties ever since, though he has been known to say he will never marry again. His longest affair perhaps was with his beloved pet Max – a 280-pound Vietnamese black-bristled pot-bellied pig. He had the pig, a gift from former girlfriend Kelly Preston, for 18 years.
