Grand Bleu de Gascogne – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is a scent hound breed. It originated in the fields and farm areas of France. It is a working and a hunting type of dog. The inherent hunting skills in this dog are evident, as it is an eager and proficient hunter. It is a large breed that can hunt deer, boar and other large game, as well as smaller animals such as hare and fox.

Although the Grand Bleu de Gascogne doesn’t move fast, it is very effective in its methods. The dog would rather take its time and enjoy the thrill of the hunt. The sheer endurance, determination, confidence, agility, powerful scenting ability and rationality allow this canine to be highly efficient.

The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is lean and has strong muscles that are quite noticeable in its physique. The long legs, drooping ears and sagging lips are distinct traits of this breed. The short, thick, dense coat is mottled black and white. This gives it a bluish look. Typically they can have black spots on the body but not always. Some tan markings might also be visible on the head and face.

The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is friendly, outgoing, and mild mannered. It is not at all timid or shy, but it is also not aggressive by any means. If this type of dog is used in a pack, it tends not to make a very good companion, but if it is used alone, it will be a loyal canine friend forever.
