Grumpy Old Women’: Annete Badland



British actress Annete Badland, who played a lead role in the comedy TV series ‘Grumpy Old Women’ has established her name in the screen world — but not as a grump. She has achieved great recognition that compensates for her hard work during her career.

A well-recognised British actor, Annete has appeared in many TV shows, playing different roles in a variety of acting situations. From children’s shows like the ‘The Worst Witch’ and ‘Happy Families’ to dramas like ‘Cutting It’ and ‘Bergarac’, Annette managed to change her behaviour, and adopt the working attitudes of the characters she portrays. As an experienced actor she has played roles in the box office hits ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘Valiant’, directed by Tim Burton. Here she worked with famous actors Rickey Gervais and Ewan McGregor.

Recognising her remarkable work in the film ‘Little Voice’ in 1999, Annette was given worthy recognition. She was nominated for Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Theatrical Motion Picture. She also received the Olivier Award at the National Theatre for her role in ‘The Rise and Fall of Little Voice’. This film, directed by Cam Mendes, garnered the Olivier Award as Best Comedy. Annete also played the lead role in ‘The Knickerman’ that was recognized in 2005 as an LA Film Festival Winner.

She began her acting career at the East 15 Acting School in London. Since her childhood, Annete developed her talents that eventually brought her recognition as one of Britain’s famous actors. Annete was born in Birmingham in 1950 but resided in West Midlands.
