Brace yourself, sickly sweet tweens are back to rule the roost. Disney’s high school gang returns for the third instalment of their singing/ acting pursuits.
Singing basketball player, (sounds hilarious, but it’s possible!) Troy (Zac Efron again) and wallflower Gabriella (who else but Vanessa Hudgens) are still in love and ‘High School Musical 3: Senior Year’ is all about dealing with the fact that the two lovebirds might actually have to live away from each other now.
Gabriella must leave to live a college dream, leaving Troy behind to deal with a painful life without her. But Troy has other issues to deal with too – he must decide who he really wants to be; the person his umm, slightly pushy dad would like him to be or the person he really wants to be.
I know this singing-dancing-acting phenomenon is huge, especially amongst the tweens but I think this third instalment is really as far as they should stretch it. I mean, already you can see the actors look tired of playing the same roles over and over again. The movie swings between soulful and boisterous and in my opinion, goes on for a little too long!
With that said, ‘High School Musical 3’ is still likely to be hugely popular especially with the tweens, who probably enjoy lapping up the dose of confection being dished out to them. I’m hoping though, college will mean an end to this series and Disney will not make a ‘High School Musical: Reunion’ or something similar!
