How to get voluntary work

If you have decided that you would like to try doing some voluntary work, how do you actually go about getting your foot in the door, There are two main choices open to you, firstly in many towns and cities there is a volunteer bureaux. It may be part of the job centre or it may be part of the citizens advice centre, but if you ask around someone is sure to know.

The volunteer bureaux is a central point for organisations that rely on voluntary staff. They leave details of the roles they need filling and details of how to apply. Starting here means that you will see a range of things you may not have realised that volunteers were needed for. You can then have a think about which positions appeal to you most.

This is brilliant if you have decided that you want to try voluntary work but are not sure where to start. However, if you have a fixed idea about where you want to work then your second option is direct contact. You need to go in with a basic CV if possible, introduce yourself and explain what you would like to do.

Finally once you have secured work you need to inform your school that you are working, and make sure that the work will not in any way interfere with your studies.
