Israeli Army Diet

The Israeli Army Diet became a popular diet craze in the 1970s. It was erroneously credited as being based upon the diet used by new Israeli Army, but in reality had no connection with the army. It was a characteristic fad diet in that it has too little calories and a lack of many nutrients, both factors contributing to the fact that most participants immediately gained weight back as soon as they stop following this diet.
The Israeli Army Diet lasts for eight days, and consists of four different foods. You eat the chosen food for two days at a time, and nothing else. Black coffee and tea are allowed for drinks. For example, you would eat apples on days one and two, cheese for days three and four, chicken on days five and six, and salad on days seven and eight. If you follow this diet strictly, you are likely to lose some weight, but it’s primarily water loss and is unsustainable. This might be acceptable if you want to follow it on a very short-term basis to lose weight for a wedding or other special event. You must not stay on it more than eight days though to avoid doing any type of long-term damage to your health.
Nutritionists and dieticians are adamantly opposed to people following this diet for any reason. It is extremely low-calorie, as well as nutritionally unbalanced, and it lacks an array of vital nutrients such as proteins, vitamins, and calories.
