When you buy your brand-new MAC, you will look forward to many years of high-quality use. However, the passage of time makes its mark on everything, including computers. Age is one of the reasons why your MAC may be running more slowly than it was, plus the number of applications, amount of mail, downloads and icons you have been using over the years. However, there are a few simple ways you can speed up your MAC.
Firstly, look at your desktop – do you need all of the shortcuts you’ve been collecting over the years and forgotten to delete? Each desktop item has its own memory footprint, so by reducing the number that will make a big difference. You can both combine similar items into the same folder and get rid of the things you don’t need.
You’ve probably got apps that you no longer use – if you browse through your applications folder, you can use an uninstaller to delete them and thus free up hard disk space. If your MAC is older, it’s a good idea to release hard drive space by either deleting items or moving them to iCloud or Google Drive.
A factor that many people are unaware of is that your MAC and a lot of the programs you install come with alternative languages which you may never use, and by getting rid of them you can free up a lot of storage space. There are apps available to do this – just do some research to get the most suitable one for your needs. Another idea is to close the tabs in your browser that you don’t use, as they take up memory, and can easily build up if you open a lot daily and forget to shut them when you finish using the computer.
As you can see, its easy to speed up your MAC and give it a new lease of life, simply by taking a few easy steps.
