Online dating, also known as Internet dating, is a dating system in which individuals meet and communicate over the Internet, through the use of cell phones, and via personal computers. Its objective is to perfectly match individuals so they can develop a personal and sexual relationship. These sites allow members to upload pictures and browse photos of others.
Jdate.com is defined as an online dating site aimed at single Jews. Its site is available all over the Internet for singles seeking to make a perfect match. Founders Joe Shapira and Alon Carmel operate this site under the Sparks Networks. It made its appearance in 1997. It is one of the most popular dating sites and one of the most focused matchmaking online sites. The site was reconstructed in 2005, and it gives members an easy way to meet new people by clicking onto each and every profile. JDate.com claims to have more than 750,000 active global members. The site claims its goal is “to help to find real people for real relationships” and “to help strengthen the Jewish community and insure Jewish traditions are carried on for many generations to come.” In 2004, Jdate.com got some bad publicity because it was found that some of the site advertisements covered explicit materials. Some active members faked their banner profiles and replaced their photos. The profiles turned out to be photos of pornography models. Jdate.com is still working to help their members find their perfect match and as a result, many members have succeeded in getting engaged and getting married.
