Lady Gaga’s music and videos may be dripping with sex, but the singer said recently that as far as her personal life goes, at the moment she is celibate. She told UK’s The Daily Mail that, “I can’t believe I’m saying this – don’t have sex. I’m single right now and I’ve chosen to be single because I don’t have the time to get to know anybody. So it’s OK not to have sex, it’s OK to get to know people. I’m celibate, celibacy’s fine.”
When she made this surprising statement, Lady Gaga was in England promoting MAC’s Viva Glam campaign and line, which supports global HIV and AIDS projects. She and Cyndi Lauper have lipsticks in the new line and their full purchase price benefits the Mac AIDS Fund. Lady Gaga stressed the importance of celibacy because, she said, the rate of HIV infection among women worldwide has grown. “The rate of infection worldwide is higher than ever for women in our particular demographic,” she said, referring to the age groups to which she and Lauper belong. Adding, “Part of the problem is that women in those groups are not getting tested. … This is a disease that affects everyone, not just the gay community and right now it’s mostly affecting women.”
Lady Gaga kicks off her the 2010 North American leg of The Monster Ball Tour on 28th June at Montreal’s Bell Centre. The tour will visit 31 cities in the USA and Canada throughout the summer and autumn.
