‘Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa’ – Laughs Aplenty

Remember how Alex the lion, Melman the giraffe, Marty the zebra, and Gloria the hippo got on to that ship to head home to the New York Zoo, Well, they don’t actually get home!

‘Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa’ takes up the story where ‘Madagascar’ left off. And unlike many other sequels this one is just as funny, maybe even funnier, and wittily so. The plane they’re on crashes and the entire crash sequence just had me in splits. And where does the crash landing take them – right into the heart of Africa of course!

The animation is brilliant and each animal, sorry, character continues to have their distinct personalities. The voices of the characters are well played as usual with Sacha Baron Cohen (King Julien) bringing down the house like no other. Animated Africa is breathtakingly beautiful too!

All the animals get to hang out with “their kind” and come to terms with life in the “wild”. I love the scene where Marty suddenly realises he isn’t one of a kind after all. And then there’s the alpha male pretender lion Makunga who’s so jealous of Alex that he delights in his banishment. Melman on the other hand becomes a witch doctor complete with the stereotypical nose-through-bone and through all his eccentricities suddenly realises he’s got the hots for Gloria. Gloria on the other hand is being wooed by macho hippo Moto Moto.

The laughs keep coming even though certain parts seemed very Lion King-esque. And yes, the penguins are still there with their million schemes-a-minute their strange brand of humour! Go. Watch. Now!
