Parson Russell Terrier – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Parson Russell Terrier hunting dog is a close relative of the Jack Russell Terrier dog breed, named after Reverend Jack Russell who was an avid hunter. At first, this dog breed was referred to as the Parson Jack Russell Terrier but there were some naming issues when it came to kennel clubs in the United States. Because of this, the name was officially changed to the Parson Russell Terrier.

This dog breed, originating in the United Kingdom, has four different types of coat colouring. It can either be all white, white with tan spots, white with black spots, or white with both tan and black spots. Most of the time the coloured spots appear on the Parson Russell Terrier’s head, back or tail. They have a short, smooth coat.

Parson Russell Terriers are a small dog breed. They often weigh in at between 5 and 8 kilograms. They have long, thin legs, and often measure between 31 and 36 centimetres tall. Although they are a small dog, they still need a lot of space to move around and exercise. They aren’t recommended for apartment living unless the owner can bring them outside for daily exercise. Otherwise, they can feel cooped up and get anxiety when left alone for long periods in smaller spaces.

This dog breed is very friendly and works well with families with children. They don’t like to be mishandled though, so add them to the family when children get a little older. Otherwise, Parson Russell Terriers make very loyal companions.
