Part time work for students

Although it may be the last thing on your mind, working a few hours a week on top of your studies can make a big difference to your wallet.

If you are interested in getting a part time job your first port of call should be the university. Most have a student welfare centre that lists job opportunities, and they will be able to help you look further afield and let you know of other positions available to you.

The Student Union is also a good place to start looking. Although most recruit their staff over the summer for the beginning of the term, it is worth checking them out to see if they have any other opportunities available in the bar, shop or even doing promotional work.

In most university towns there are numerous bars, nightclubs, restaurants and shops to cater for the young student population. Why not head down and give in your CV to the manager, Although they may not be advertising any vacancies, who knows what could come up in the future.

Remember to check out the jobcentre as they often advertise part time vacancies on their website ( HYPERLINK “http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk” http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk). You should also register with as many recruitment agencies as possible. They can offer seasonal event work, as well as more long term positions that are perfect for students.

If you decide to work while you are studying, try to limit the hours you work and not let it interfere with your course.
