4 Ways To Speed Up Your PC

If you want to speed up your old PC there are a number of quick and easy ways to do so. As you use it you’ll notice after a while that it doesn’t perform quite as well as it did when you first bought it. This is down to a number of factors, from the accumulation of old files and programs that you don’t use anymore to the registry becoming corrupted and the system getting infected with spyware and malware such as viruses.

Fortunately, there are plenty of tools you can use to rectify matters and bring your trusty old PC back up to speed, some of them built in to the Windows OS and many others available for free on the internet. Try a few of them if you want to speed up PC performance and you’ll soon notice a big difference.

Remove malware

Give your system a thorough scan with one of the free anti-virus programs which are readily available online if you haven’t already done so. Be sure to run it regularly and check for updates, as new malware is appearing all the time. Viruses and adware use up valuable resources and slow down performance.

Defragment your hard drive

The System Defragmenter is a built-in tool that tidies up your file system and makes it easier for the OS to access and retrieve data and run programs.

Change the power settings

Change the power plan to high performance from power saver and you’ll get an instant boost in performance.

Disable startup programs

Launch Task Manager and click the Startup tab to get a list of programs that run when you first start up your PC. Right-click and ‘Disable’ the ones you don’t need, as these just slow the system down, and you can easily enable them again later if you want them back.
