The Picardy Spaniel, also referred to as the Epagneul Picard, is of French decent. While they originally came from France, they can now be found in other European countries as well as the United States. They are related to the Blue Picardy Spaniel although the Picardy Spaniel has been around for much longer.
Picardy Spaniels make great working dogs, especially when it comes to hunting. They are good at a variety of tasks, including pointing and retrieving. The hunter can choose to train their Picardy Spaniel in either or both of these tasks. They are better than similar dog breeds because they can hunt in a wide variety of terrain, whether for dry land animals or water-based prey.
Picardy Spaniels are noted for their long legs. This makes them tall but lean. They have an average height of 55 to 60 centimetres. If entered into a kennel club competition, Picardy Spaniels should not reach a height of more than 62 centimetres. They have a wide back and long floppy ears. This dog breed has dense, medium-length wavy hair. They come in mottled grey, brown, and tan coat colours as well as a mixture of all three of these colours.
This dog breed is noted as being very calm and docile. While they have a lot of energy when it comes to hunting, they conserve it during off times. Picardy Spaniels are good with people, and their calm demeanour makes them a great pet for families with small children.
