The Sapsali is a Korean dog breed that also goes by the name Sapsaree. Although this is a popular breed in Korea, it doesn’t have a very big population outside of the country. There are about a dozen in the United States, but they are otherwise kept in their native land.
The long coat of the Sapsali gives it a striking resemblance to the Old English Sheepdog. It has long fur that hangs over its eyes, obstructing its vision. It has a long body of medium build and has muscular features. The colour of the coat of the Sapsali can vary. They can be a solid colour, such as black or brown, or they can be mixed shades of colours such as blonde, reddish-orange or salt and pepper.
Judging purely by looks, most people would think that the Sapsali makes a good herding dog, just like the Old English Sheepdog. This is actually false. While most dog breeds are created as working dogs of some variety, the Sapsali was bred to be a companion. They are fluffy dogs that love to be cuddled by their owner. While they are very loving to their family, Sapsali dogs are very wary of strangers. If they feel threatened, they will fight back. If a Sapsali starts chasing something, it won’t give up until it has caught up to its target, or has run out of stamina. Still, if they are shown that a stranger is a friend their behaviour shouldn’t be a problem.
