The Miniature Schnauzer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. People love these dogs because of their small size, interesting looks, and loving demeanour. The Miniature Schnauzer was created in the late 1800s by mixing the Standard Schnauzer with smaller dog breeds, such as the Poodle and possibly the Affenpinscher. Through this coupling, breeders created the Miniature Schnauzer, a smaller version of the original Schnauzer dog.
The Miniature Schnauzer is relatively small. They average a height of between 30 and 36 centimetres and a weight of between five and seven kilograms. Female Miniature Schnauzers usually weigh a bit less than males of this breed, although they are the same height. This makes female Miniature Schnauzers look a bit slimmer, but otherwise the same.
Miniature Schnauzers have a double coat that is very dense and wavy. Owners will either keep the coat long, or cut it short. When kept long, the coat will be soft to the touch. When cut short, the Miniature Schnauzer’s coat is wiry and harsh. The coat colour varies between different shades of black, grey and silver. They can be a solid colour, or a mix of different shades.
Miniature Schnauzers are known for being very friendly. They are devoted to their owners and will follow commands easily. This makes them very obedient. It takes a bit of time for a Miniature Schnauzer to accept a stranger. If the owner shows the dog that the stranger is a friend, they’ll likely warm up to them.
