The Shiloh Shepherd Dog was named as such because of the kennel from which it was developed. This breed is very young and rare and is not even represented in any major kennel clubs as of yet. A woman named Tina M. Barber of New York in the United States who owned and operated the New Zion Shiloh Shepherd Kennel began developing this new breed in 1974. She wanted to create an even better dog from German Shepherd stock. Her biggest concerns were that she wanted a dog that was large in size but that also made a great companion and a capable working dog. She eventually created what is now the Shiloh Shepherd Dog, which met all of her needs.
Shiloh Shepherd Dogs have a lot of versatility when it comes to their working dog status. For instance, they are often used as a therapy or seeing-eye dog. They are obedient and will do as they are told. They take their job very seriously. They also make great livestock herders and guardians as well as capable search and rescue dogs. While they can do all of these jobs, many of the Shiloh Shepherd Dog owners most love them for their companionship. They are affectionate dogs that are loyal to their families.
Because of their large frame and size, the Shiloh Shepherd Dog is a largely built dog breed. They average a height between 66 and 76 centimetres and a weight between 36 and 65 kilograms. Female Shiloh Shepherd Dogs are significantly smaller than males.
