Teens Travelling Without Parents

There is much debate over what age a teenager should be in order for them to travel without their parents. It is the general consensus that only teenagers who have left school should be allowed to travel on their own, and it is common for large groups of friends to head to one of the popular teenage destinations during the summer months.

Some of these locations include Greece, places like Kavos, Kos and Corfu, and the islands of Ibiza and Majorca. These ‘young’ holiday destinations often cater directly to 17 and 18 year olds. It is mainly the nightlife that attracts large groups of teenagers to these destinations, but the drinking age is still 18, so it is not recommended for anyone younger to travel to them with the aims of clubbing.

Of course, it will mainly depend on the individual whether or not they can travel by themselves. A level of maturity will be required, and it is always best that they are travelling with friends that are also responsible.
When parents are not willing to consider their teenage son or daughter travelling without them, teenagers often argue that they will not be doing anything different on holiday as they would at home, and there can be no more dangers to encounter abroad. Choosing a reliable and respected tour operator and good accommodation in a well-known destination is be highly recommended, as is travelling with groups of friends. Regardless of age, it is never considered safe for a teenager to travel alone.
