The Thai Bangkaew Dog breed goes by many shortened nicknames including the Bangkaew or just the TBD. As the name suggests, this dog breed originated from a monastery in the Bang Rakam District of Thailand called Wat Bangkaew. The monks of that temple were exceptionally loving to all living things, including stray dogs and unwanted animals. Because of this, when they were given the opportunity, they gladly took care of certain dogs and bred them accordingly. Out of this activity came the Thai Bangkaew Dog. These dogs are very popular in Thailand and breeders are strict in the way they create and form the breed.
Thai Bangkaew Dogs are of the spitz variety. This means they have a long, curly tail that lies against their back. They also have tall, pointed erect ears and a long muzzle. Thai Bangkaew Dogs have a long, straight coat, especially on their tail, legs and chest. They also have an undercoat that is shorter and very dense. Thai Bangkaew Dogs can come in coat colours such as white, grey, black, brown and red, although they can come in a wide variety of patterns of each of these colours.
Since they are so devoted to their family, Thai Bangkaew Dogs can make good watch dogs. They will bark and alert their masters when strangers approach. Because of this, their owners need to show their dog when strangers are accepted into the house so that the Thai Bangkaew Dog can get used to the new person.
