Its devoted fans have eagerly looked forward to the third film of the highly successful Mummy series. Being a great admirer of the first two Mummy films, I was all eyes and ears for this latest Mummy flick. However, all my hopes were drowned and even the exotic location of Asia could not help to lend this movie that much needed touch of brilliance.
The Mummy- Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is much of a let down, especially after building up so much hype and publicity. Although the movie has its fine moments, it is nothing close to a classic. I was particularly disappointed with the lack of an overall refreshing feel that the movie could have. Instead, the screenplay turns out to be flat and uninteresting.
Fraser and Maria Bello deliver their performances pretty well, though the overall effect of the film steals away their respective moments of glory. Stephen Sommers could have taken a more fresh directorial approach, but instead he chose to play producer. Rob Cohen gets into the director’s chair for this Mummy episode and I am certainly not impressed! Going by this brilliant director’s earlier hits such as ‘Stealth’ and ‘the Fast and the Furious’, this film just does not fit the bill and appears to be a distracted and a clumsily put together piece of work.
To give it some justice, The Mummy- Tomb of the Dragon Emperor has its share of finely crafted action scenes that could make you grip the sides of your seats. However the thrill does not last and will definitely not satisfy your expectations.
And who can forget Jet Li, Well, honestly I was expecting to see more of this legendary actor but alas it remains a mystery to me why the producers decided to give him so little screen time!
