Treeing Cur – Dog Breed Information and Pictures

The Treeing Cur dog breed was developed in the United States as a working dog. Rather than focus on looks or temperament, breeders wanted dogs that would listen to commands and that could follow direction well. They needed to be strong and be able to handle lots of activity. From those breeding standards came the Treeing Cur. Not only are they very good all around working dogs, but they also happen to make good family pets. Most of the time, when breeders only focus on the working aspect of a dog, they end up being bad at socialization and family interaction. Luckily, that isn’t the case for the Treeing Cur dog breed. They are actually very friendly with people when they aren’t on the hunt.

They are referred to as Treeing Curs because they specialize in hunting animals that spend most of their time in trees. They can also hunt other animals and are good with large game. They are particularly good at hunting raccoons and squirrels. Besides hunting, the Treeing Cur also does a good job at guarding the home. They will keep watch over their family, barking to alert their owners to the presence of intruders. This guarding instinct also helps them with livestock and herding groups of animals.

Treeing Curs reach heights between 45 and 61 centimetres and weights between 13 and 27 kilograms. Since little care was taken about the look of the Treeing Cur when they were bred, they can be almost any colour.
