The USA welcomes a large number of students during the summer months, and going on a work placement will be a great way to get experience of the American way of life. Many of the organisations offer summer jobs in the US for students. They will usually include everything in their packages, such as a work placement, accommodation and Visa applications. However, this might not always be the case, so it is recommended to find out what exactly is included with the deal. The programme will only be open to students in full-time third level education.
The length of the trip is usually between three and four months, and normally comes with one month free to travel around the country. The types of jobs on offer will vary dramatically, but most options will be in the services sector. If you find that you are unhappy with the job that has been offered to you, it will be unlikely that the company you have chosen to travel with will be able find you a second placement.
When it comes to accommodation, holiday resorts are usually the most common option, with many being available close to major cities such as Los Angeles and New York.
Visa requirements will mean that you will need to prove that you are over the age of 18, in full-time education and that you are coming back to the UK to complete your studies. It is also recommended to purchase travel insurance, as this is rarely included in package deals.
