When it comes to getting married most women want the perfect wedding dress – something elegant, sophisticated and a perfect fit. Many opt for a more traditional wedding dress whilst others go for something more modern and sassy. Wedding dress designers have incorporated all the various styles and trends, including1920’s dresses with low waists through to the more modern Sheath dress. Modern wedding dresses have gone away form long sleeves and high neck lines and moved to a more stylish off the shoulder and strapless look.
Many of us think a wedding dress should be white in colour as this is the tradition, but in actual fact white has not always been the traditional colour of wedding dresses. If you go back hundreds of years many brides chose gowns of various colours, including yellow, blue and green, and it all depended on the age of the bride as these colours depicted maturity and fertility. Brides from the upper classes would wear the most splendid gowns and those less fortunate would simply put on their best outfit. In those days a white dress symbolised the bride had a lack of money. These days a popular choice is off white and ivory dresses.
Wedding dress fashions have also followed the romance and fairytale aspect. Some brides will opt for a full blown wedding dress complete with train and veil, making them look magical and truly like Cinderella.
