Many UK hospitals, nursing homes, medical centres, clinics and other medical care, entities need experienced nurses. Medical facilities contract with nursing care agencies to recruit staff for general nursing and medical care specialties. They offer temporary, fulltime and part time nursing jobs and day-to-day contracts.
All the agencies carefully screen nurses before offering a contract; they interview candidates and check all references. They also run criminal record checks and verify the candidates work history. Agencies seek the best-qualified people to fill nursing positions. The Nursing and Midwifery Council regularly checks nurse ‘Pin’ numbers.
The agencies prepare weekly invoices, including the nurse’s name, hours worked, travel allowance, holiday pay, NI contributions, VAT and any commission charged by the agency. Nurses usually receive weekly payments.
Nurses in the process of becoming registered in the UK can complete a profile and register their CV online with one or several agencies specialising in contract work.
