What is Gonorrhoea,

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease that is also commonly known as the “Clap”. It is a bacterial infection and treatment is readily available for it. It is one of the most commonly found STDs and is prevalent in teenagers and young adults. One of the reasons for this is that it often goes undetected and is easily transmitted.

If there are any symptoms, they are usually displayed very early on in the disease. Men and women both may experience a discharge or change in discharge. It is this discharge, which may irritate the area around the genital region. The discharge may have an odour as well.

Painful urination is another common symptom of this disease. These symptoms are short-lived and involve secretions from the body leading people to believe the problem has resolved itself when that simply is not the case. If left untreated, gonorrhoea can spread to other areas of the reproductive system as well as the urinary system.

The unchecked spread of the disease can lead to kidney problems and infertility as well other serious health conditions. In some instances, it is even known to have an impact on the spinal cord and brain. This disease can also be spread to a newborn child as they pass through the birth canal. Having the potential to cause blindness, this can easily be prevented if precautions against STDs are taken.

The best way to avoid any STD is to abstain from sex. Barring that, the use of condoms may help prevent the spread of disease but is not guaranteed to do so. Make sure to have regular checkups and share your sexual history with your doctor.
